Decent gym but hygiene issues persist
As a long-time member, I've noticed significant changes at the gym since COVID. It used to have a premium feel, complete with higher prices, complimentary workout plans, and a friendly atmosphere, but now it offers a more affordable model that has resulted in some unsupportive and unfriendly members. The hygiene standards have declined as well. On the plus side, the trainers are knowledgeable, and with just four experienced ones available, I recommend investing in personal training to maximize your results and make the most of your workouts during the busy evening hours. They charge 18,000 LKR for six sessions, which seems reasonable. Hygiene is a major concern for me. Water cans are stored in the men's bathroom, which doesn’t feel clean. The floors often show sweat marks, the mirrors are dirty, and general maintenance is lacking. Even the common areas outside the gym are poorly kept, contributing to the impression that cleanliness isn’t a priority. There are also no hand wash stations or hand sanitizers available, likely due to cost-cutting, so it’s wise to bring your own sanitizer. Recently, two treadmills were out of order, leading to some wait times during peak hours, but I appreciate that they addressed the issue and fixed most of the machines. Having a trainer around during busy times can help you stay on track with your workouts. Overall, it’s a decent gym if you opt for personal training, but the hygiene and maintenance aspects definitely need more focus.
