    A Relaxing Stay in Sri Lanka

    The final two nights of my Sri Lanka trip were spent here, and I truly wished for more time. After three weeks of traveling, this was the first place where I could genuinely relax. It offered a serene escape, beautifully nestled among palm trees, and the pool was a delightful way to refresh. My room was spacious, impeccably clean, and featured effective air conditioning, along with a large, comfy bed. On my first night, there was a buffet for all guests, showcasing an impressive array of dishes, all freshly prepared by the host family. You feel more like family than just another guest here. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, and the owner even converses in German. On the second evening, I enjoyed a generous portion of fish, also freshly cooked by the family. I can honestly say this was the best place I stayed during my trip, and I will certainly return.

    Charming stay with some drawbacks

    This place is located a 15-minute walk from the main road and bus stop, but be cautious as Google Maps might direct you the wrong way. Access is actually off Thotawatta Road, giving it a somewhat secluded feel. The nearest beach is just a 5-minute walk away if you turn right, where you can take a shortcut through people’s houses—though be prepared for kids who might ask for money repeatedly. A better option would be to turn left and head to the main Ahungalla beach. Since Ahungalla is a small town, amenities are limited. Checking in was quite different from our experience at the previous 9 hotels and homestays during this trip. We were asked for payment upfront before even viewing the room or recovering from our travels, and there was some confusion regarding the price as the host only spoke in USD. After asking three times for the price in rupees, we eventually gave up and said we would settle it later, which was not the most welcoming start. The room itself was a decent size, but it lacked a chair, and the linen had a slightly musty smell. The pool was nice, but be cautious when entering as the tiles slope around the edges. The highlight of our stay was definitely the evening meal; the freshly prepared rice and curry was among the best we'd had, boasting authentic flavors and proper spices. Breakfasts, however, were quite basic.

    Great spot near the ocean

    This is a fantastic location, just a short distance from the ocean and the city center, yet still quite tranquil. The restaurant on the premises offers excellent prices. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

    Booking Cancellation Ruined Our Trip

    I cannot recommend this place at all! The owner canceled our booking on the day we were supposed to arrive, despite having arranged everything with him well in advance over the phone. We were already en route and had to scramble to find new accommodations at the last minute, which is incredibly inconvenient when traveling with a small child. It felt heartless and was entirely unprofessional. I won't be coming back! If I could give negative stars, I would!

    Great Stay Close to the Beach

    Just a couple of minutes from the beach, the rooms here are spotless and quite comfy. Selva and Vinoj, the owners, offer fantastic hospitality. The homemade food is absolutely delicious.

    The hospitality here is fantastic; it feels just like being with family. We spent a week and already want to return. Plus, it's only a three-minute walk to the beach.

    Great for a Quick Stay

    The cleanliness of the rooms was excellent, and the environment was peaceful. It's a solid choice for a brief visit. The pool was also pleasantly warm. However, the location is somewhat off a main road, so walking alone at night isn't advisable.

    Disappointing stay with poor service

    My experience at this hotel was quite disappointing. We had reserved 5 rooms for one night, but one of them wasn't ready until 4 hours after we arrived. This delay meant that two members of our group had to wait without a room for several hours, which was simply unacceptable. Furthermore, the hotel itself was in very poor condition; there was no water available, the rooms lacked proper maintenance, and some rooms had non-functioning air conditioning. From the start, the staff and owner were extremely rude, treating us in a disrespectful and unprofessional way. Because of these significant issues, along with the unacceptable attitude of the staff and owner, we ended up leaving on our first night. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
