Amazing dining experience with great hospitality
We had a fantastic time dining here! The food was delicious and bursting with flavor, but what truly made this place stand out was the outstanding hospitality. I was with my friend, and when the staff learned it was her birthday, they went out of their way to make it special. Even though we insisted they didn't have to, they surprised her with a complimentary dessert and sang a birthday song at the end of our meal! It was such a thoughtful gesture that truly enhanced our evening. The staff is incredibly polite, and the atmosphere is very inviting. If you're in Sri Lanka, this is a must-visit spot—highly recommended!

Fantastic Dinner Experience in Ella
This place is perfect for dinner. We visited on our last day and regretted not coming here earlier. I chose the steamed rice with prawn curry, which was an excellent option for Europeans. Our meal was delightful. The open kitchen and serene atmosphere were a welcome change from the busy streets of Ella. They also have a small spice shop where we purchased curry powder, black pepper, and cardamom, all sourced from their garden. They offer nearby cooking classes as well—sadly, we couldn't attend, but I believe they're fantastic and worth your time. Highly recommended!

Best Meal in Sri Lanka
Our time in Sri Lanka just keeps improving, and this was by far our best meal yet. The flavors were incredible, reminiscent of a Michelin-starred dining experience. It's a must-visit! We ordered the veg kottu and the coconut roti with pumpkin curry. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to snap a picture.

Hidden Gem with Tasty Rice
This restaurant sits at the end of a dark alley, but it's definitely worth the visit. The rice on its own was really delicious (I believe it was the tikka masala dish). My curry was good, though the roti that came with it was somewhat underwhelming. It was quite peaceful, making it a nice find. There's a spice shop nearby that operates a spice garden, and the man who runs it was very friendly. The restaurant manager was also quite lovely. I wouldn't suggest the alcoholic mojito, but the mocktail version was enjoyable.

Delicious curries in a cozy spot
The food was excellent, with friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere hidden from the busy road. We tried two curry plates, and the vegetable curries were truly tasty.

Exceptional dining experience in Ella
Grandma’s Kitchen is a real hidden gem in Ella. Although it’s not right on the main street, it’s easy to find and access. The short walk there is enjoyable and absolutely worth it. What really impressed me was the outstanding service. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely interested in ensuring we had a wonderful experience. Unlike many of the busier restaurants in town, this place isn’t overcrowded, allowing you to relax and savor your meal while being well taken care of. The food was excellent homestyle cuisine, far superior to many of the eateries on Ella’s main street. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Additionally, the prices are fantastic for the quality you get. In summary, Grandma’s Kitchen is a very underrated spot that deserves much more recognition. If you're in Ella, I highly suggest giving it a shot. Great food, excellent service, great value, and a much more laid-back atmosphere compared to the crowded places in town. We dined here three times during our visit, and every meal was delicious.
