Unforgettable Stay at Crystal Sands Hikkaduwa

Our experience at Crystal Sands Hikkaduwa was truly memorable. We occupied a spacious 135 m² apartment that surpassed our expectations with its modern design, comfort, and stunning views of the Indian Ocean. It felt like our own private oasis — light-filled, well-designed, and ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring Sri Lanka’s southern coast. The staff were outstanding — consistently attentive, friendly, and genuinely dedicated to ensuring we had a great stay. Their warm hospitality was evident at the reception, during housekeeping, and at breakfast, making us feel sincerely welcomed throughout our time there. Breakfast at Crystal Sands was a definite highlight. The selection and quality were impressive — fresh, tasty, and carefully prepared, providing a delightful start to each day. Situated right on a tranquil stretch of beach near Hikkaduwa, the hotel boasts direct sea views, appealing outdoor spaces, and convenient access to local attractions. Whether lounging on the beach, enjoying the rooftop vistas, or simply relaxing by the pool, this was an ideal setting for a peaceful getaway. If you're in search of a mix of comfort, excellent service, and breathtaking oceanfront views, Crystal Sands is an excellent option. It's highly recommended for couples, families, or anyone hoping for a memorable experience on Sri Lanka’s southern coast.

Great stay with minor improvements needed

We enjoyed a wonderful one-night stay in one of the ‘sand suites’ at Crystal Sands. The private plunge pool in our suite was fantastic and definitely one of the standout features. The suite itself was spacious, tranquil, fully air-conditioned, well-lit, and offered a lovely view of the sea. The room had excellent amenities including tea/coffee facilities, a mini bar and fridge, microwave, hob, kettle, water, washing machine, iron, and quality bathroom products. Having two double bedrooms was a significant advantage. We opted for a full board package. The breakfast buffet was superb, featuring authentic Sri Lankan dishes that we relished after our long absence from Sri Lanka. Lunch consisted of a set menu with limited choices, but the food was delicious and beautifully presented. When we ordered in-room dining, Rakitha provided polite and professional service. Dinner at Tempest Restaurant was enjoyable, and the staff were helpful in guiding us through the menu. We appreciated the beach access with loungers, outdoor showers, and lifeguards. The facility also includes a gym, pool, and spa. While the spa experience was decent, there is room for improvement in communication. As for the price, given the facilities and comfort, it felt justified. We would certainly consider returning.

Lovely Anniversary Celebration at Crystal Sands

I visited Crystal Sands for my anniversary and it truly lived up to our expectations. The staff was very welcoming, and the rooms were spacious and equipped with high-tech amenities. I haven't encountered such meticulous attention to detail in any of my previous travels. The staff also made it a point to check in on us occasionally to ensure we were doing well. The plunge pool was a highlight, offering a breathtaking view. The food was delicious, and the room's decor was lovely, complete with a complimentary cake. The portions were just right, encouraging moderation. Overall, we had a fantastic time celebrating here, and the staff went above and beyond to take care of us and handle all our arrangements. I highly recommend this place for a celebration and a relaxing family getaway.

    Beautiful property with great service

This property is truly stunning. It's very well-kept, and the staff are incredibly polite and helpful, ensuring our stay was comfortable. The apartments are spacious, and all of them have sea views. The restaurant is nice as well. I want to give a special shout-out to Dilka; she is excellent at her job and always greets guests with a warm smile. Thank you, Crystal Sands, for making our stay enjoyable. If I visit Sri Lanka again, I would definitely love to stay here once more.

Great beachfront location with some issues

This beachfront hotel, which has an apartment style, is generally a nice choice for those who prioritize location, food, and friendly service, as long as they are okay with a few operational drawbacks. HIGHLIGHTS: + The staff is friendly and willing to accommodate requests, including being flexible with rescheduling when reasonable. + The food is tasty, although the preparation time can be quite lengthy. + It boasts a prime beachfront location with beach support. + There’s a coffee machine available. NOTES and areas for improvement: + We experienced several electricity outages (4–5 in one day). The backup power didn’t kick in as seamlessly as at other hotels, and the elevator stopped working during one of the outages. + While you can report issues, the frequent disruptions make it impractical to keep calling the service number, which can detract from the overall experience. + The hotel pool is on the small side and is situated right next to the restaurant, making it feel more functional than relaxing, with some privacy concerns. + Our room’s plunge pool had water jets similar to a jacuzzi, but it doesn’t provide a true jacuzzi experience since there’s no temperature control (it gets chilly at night), and we noticed a brown, sediment-like substance floating in it, limiting our use. + The plunge pool in our room lacked privacy and a good view since it was on a lower floor. Requesting a room on an upper floor might be better. + The rooms feel quite small for the price, and the bathrobes provided are extremely tiny. + Even though we arrived an hour later than scheduled, the check-in process took an additional 10 minutes due to front desk delays and potential room swap documentation.

    Nice hotel with some quirks

I feel a bit mixed about giving this hotel a lower rating since overall, it’s quite pleasant, but there were some odd aspects. To start, the hotel and the rooms are clean and well-maintained. The staff is incredibly friendly, which seems to be a common trait in Sri Lanka. We chose this hotel primarily because it offers a luxurious experience at a competitive price. However, there were a few choices that struck me as unusual: The hotel has a private beach, which is great, but the only access is through the parking lot via what appears to be a service exit, which feels strange. The rooms are relatively spacious, but they feel a bit cramped due to certain compromises that seem out of place for a hotel of this caliber; for example, the bed is only about 190cm long, making it uncomfortable for taller guests. While the service staff is genuinely nice and eager to help, it seems like they are trying to replicate a Western service style but aren’t fully comfortable in those roles, leading to moments that felt somewhat awkward. Each balcony has a whirlpool, but they aren’t heated, so even in warmer weather, it can be a bit chilly to use them. I’m not sure who would want to sit in there. There’s a pool, but access is only through the restaurant and bar area, and there are no lounge chairs to relax in after swimming— you just walk right out at the bar. I can’t say for sure, but perhaps my Central European perspective contributes to my feeling that these arrangements are odd, particularly since the hotel seems to cater mostly to a Russian clientele in Hikkaduwa. Looking back, we might have been happier in one of the charming bungalow-style accommodations that felt more genuine.

Wonderful stay at Crystal Sand Hikkaduwa

My experience at Crystal Sand Hikkaduwa was fantastic, easily one of my best stays in a long time of traveling. The stunning ocean view from the hotel is truly memorable. The infinity pool with its sea view creates a perfect setting for relaxation, and the addition of a plunge pool is a lovely touch of luxury. The room was very comfortable, well-kept, and thoughtfully organized. I particularly liked having a mini bar and the coffee and tea facilities, which made my stay even more enjoyable. Both dinner and breakfast were tasty, offering a great variety and high quality. Most importantly, the service was exceptional; the staff were friendly, attentive, and very professional. Their warm hospitality really made the experience special. I highly recommend Crystal Sand Hikkaduwa for anyone seeking a relaxing and comfortable getaway. I would absolutely love to come back!
