Great dinner experience at Cafe Japan
My friends and I had a wonderful dinner at Cafe Japan. They start serving dinner at 6:00 PM on Saturdays, and we found ample parking available.

The atmosphere is nice and quiet, making it a comfortable place to dine. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. I enjoyed the food, and the portion sizes were satisfying. Just a heads up, parking can be a bit limited.

Enjoying a relatively authentic Japanese casual meal in Colombo city center brings an indescribable joy.
THE H.
Cafe Japan is a delightful surprise that quickly makes sense. This converted old house, with its lived-in and slightly worn feel, has a special charm reminiscent of those tucked-away spots in Japan where families start serving sushi from home. There's no drama here, just genuine warmth. With anime books scattered around, you can feel a Sri Lankan-Japanese vibe filling the air. Now, let’s be honest—this isn’t high-end, five-star sushi. And that’s exactly what makes it appealing. The fish is fresh, but the real highlight is the rice. It’s perfectly cooked and seasoned, honestly better than what you’d find at most luxury hotels in Colombo. (I’m deliberately leaving out Nihonbashi, as they belong in a different category.) The service could be faster—there's no denying that. But it's kind and sincere. Rukshan, when he’s not too busy, brings warmth and attentive service. It’s not showy, nor is it trying to be. This is a peaceful, straightforward place where you can enjoy good, honest sushi with your family without feeling overcharged in a fish-abundant island. Sometimes, that's all you really need.
