Kalmunai North Hospital is a significant government facility located in Kalmunai, Sri Lanka, overseen by the central government in Colombo. It had 413 beds as of 2010 and is often referred to as Kalmunai North Base Hospital.

This hospital has a pleasant and clean environment, and the doctors and staff are generally very good. However, there's room for improvement in the attitude of some staff, particularly the male receptionist.

I can't express how thankful I am to the hospital. 🙏🏻 I've never received this level of care, even from private hospitals. I'm honestly amazed by the quality of the treatment and the cleanliness. 😍 The process was very quick with no waiting times. Other hospitals should take notes from Kalmunai (North) hospital. Pppaaah... Wherever I am, I will choose this place for my baby's delivery. Thank you so much! 🥰 Please send my heartfelt appreciation to the hospital team. You've done an incredible job. This is one of the top government hospitals in the eastern part of the island. The sufficient number of staff is crucial for the hospital's success. The doctors, nurses, and other personnel are very attentive and dedicated to their work. Its location is also significant, as it benefits many people in various ways. The Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU) has been renovated and now resembles a private hospital in terms of cleanliness and overall appearance. I hope this level of service continues and improves even further. Thank you!

I'm really disappointed. They took my mother to the operation theatre for lens surgery, but then suddenly informed us that the lens they needed wasn't available. It's been a year and a half, and we haven't received any calls from them since then.

Communicating with the hospital staff was quite difficult due to their limited English skills, and getting reliable information over the phone was a challenge, even with a local's assistance. However, after about 30 minutes of trying to explain my needs, they eventually assisted me and I was able to see the ophthalmologist/eye surgeon in the eye ward. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hospital itself was reasonably organized and clean. Just a heads up, some of the photos online don’t actually represent this hospital, and I plan to report that. Additionally, I should mention that they didn’t charge me anything even though I’m a foreigner, which is unusual since private doctors and hospitals in Pottuvil often charge foreigners exorbitantly in dollars.

The recent controversy surrounding the uniforms of nine Muslim female healthcare workers at this hospital is quite troubling. Reports indicate that these women did not refuse the government uniform; they opted for a fully white uniform while adhering to their religious attire. Interestingly, some staff who voiced concerns about the uniform were also seen wearing religious or cultural symbols, such as a forehead bindi and a sacred thread on their wrist. This brings up a crucial question: Are the rules being applied consistently for everyone? Rather than thoroughly investigating this matter and implementing a single, clear policy for all, the decision to transfer these nine employees to another hospital seems inadequate. If the individuals involved are simply relocated without addressing the core issue, what’s to stop this from happening again? A government hospital should be a place that welcomes everyone. Muslim patients and those from other communities should feel assured that they will receive equal respect and care. Regardless of one's religion or ethnicity, policies should be universal and the treatment should be equitable for all. This situation shouldn't conclude with mere transfers. Management needs to thoroughly analyze what transpired and create a fair and consistent policy to prevent similar issues in the future. I'm very disappointed with how this situation has been managed.

Diabetic patients with serious conditions should think twice before visiting this hospital. The doctors and surgeons in this specific department seem unwilling to provide proper care. Furthermore, Ward No. 1 is extremely disorganized, and the support staff there can be quite rude to both patients and visitors.
