    Great ambience with generous portions

    The atmosphere is lovely, enhanced by the right music that complements both the mood and the view. While the menu is somewhat limited, the portion sizes are quite generous. We started with the tuna and avocado and shared the grilled seafood platter, which could easily feed 3-4 people. However, the seafood platter seemed slightly undercooked, although the shrimp were fantastic. The service was top-notch, and the drinks were also impressive. The only downside is that the prices are a bit steep; it would be perfect if they were about 15% - 20% lower.

    Hidden Italian Gem in Dickwella

    While exploring Dickwella, we came across an Italian restaurant that was a delightful surprise. The chef, a Sri Lankan who has honed his skills in Italy, has truly perfected the craft of authentic Italian cuisine, bringing the flavors of Italy to the island. We kicked off our meal with fish soup, which was a wonderful mix of tastes—rich, hearty, and filled with fresh seafood. Next came the gnocchi, which was soft and fluffy, accompanied by a sauce that could compete with any trattoria in Rome. The tuna fish was the highlight, grilled just right and seasoned flawlessly. Each dish was outstanding, made with great care and meticulous attention. The service was friendly and attentive. If you're on the lookout for genuine Italian food in the vicinity, this restaurant is a must-try. The combination of Italian culinary traditions and local ingredients truly sets it apart. Kudos to the chef for achieving perfection on every plate! Grazie e in boca al lupo.

    Fantastic Sunset Dinner at Smeralda

    Our dining experience at Smeralda was outstanding. Staying at Dickwella Resort, we took a brief stroll along the beach for a sunset dinner. As we arrived at dusk, we quickly realized we had forgotten our mosquito spray. Since my son is allergic to midges and sandflies, we debated whether to run back for some. Fortunately, the staff provided us with citronella and lemongrass spray, which was very effective. We were grateful, as it allowed us to order and enjoy the sunset without worry! We ordered three mocktails, a mixed seafood dish, crab linguine, and my son chose a beef burger with fries. The staff was incredibly attentive, bringing us bread to enjoy with our meals. The tables were nicely set with oil, vinaigrette, salt, and pepper—something we’ve struggled to find in Sri Lanka where many places don’t allow you to season your food to taste without asking. Our food and drinks were served promptly and presented beautifully. The mocktails—cucumber cooler, passionfruit sour, and a virgin margarita—were all delightful. Since it was the day after the Sinhalese New Year, many places were either closed or lacking certain ingredients, but we were pleased with our choices. The crab linguine had a simple tomato base and became more enjoyable with every bite. They provided all the tools needed to extract the precious crab meat, making it a fun experience. Throughout our meal, the staff unobtrusively replaced our bowl of lime water for cleaning our fingers while eating the crab and cleared away my husband’s prawn tails. These thoughtful touches truly enhanced our experience. While we found the prices on the higher side, the exceptional service made it worthwhile. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend visiting if you're in the area. The view overlooking the pool and out to the Indian Ocean, with swaying coconut trees, was simply gorgeous!

    Exceptional food and service

    The service, food quality, and atmosphere are remarkable. The chef and manager greeted us personally, ensuring we had a memorable dining experience. The seafood and Italian dishes were incredibly tasty, which is why we chose to return for a second evening. It’s definitely a place worth visiting. Such a hidden gem!

    Comfortable stay with great service

    We spent a night at the hotel, and Daria, the manager, was incredibly friendly while the staff was quite efficient. The accommodations were very comfortable. However, the food felt a bit pricey for the portion sizes, even though the quality was good. Overall, it’s a nice place to stay.

    Charming Beachside Dining Experience

    While many nearby restaurants were fully booked, this one was surprisingly empty without any clear reason. The tables set on the beach created a wonderfully romantic atmosphere. Although the cuisine isn't strictly Italian, they seem to be giving it a go, and the owner, a genuinely nice guy from Italy, adds a personal touch. The food was enjoyable, as was the service.

    Phenomenal 8-Course Meal Experience

    I enjoyed an incredible eight-course meal here. Everything was fresh and expertly made. It was truly extravagant and exquisite, with the octopus standing out as particularly magnificent. The service was attentive, and the entertainment with dancing was excellent. This was a special meal for Christmas. Breakfast here is also fantastic and comes in large portions.

    Great Italian Lunch Experience

    We enjoyed lunch at this charming Italian restaurant, and it was a wonderful experience. I had a beef hamburger with French fries, and the food was quite good. Everything was flavorful and well made. The setting is beautiful, featuring a swimming pool and breathtaking sea views. It’s very spacious and inviting, making us feel relaxed while we savored our meal. The owner, hailing from Sardinia, was extremely friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall enjoyment. I highly recommend this spot if you’re seeking delicious food in a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely return in the future!

    Charming seaside dining experience

    This marks our second visit to this restaurant, enjoying both lunch and dinner, and each time has been delightful. For lunch, I ordered a beef hamburger that was tender, cooked just right, and had well-balanced flavors. I really loved it. In the evening, I opted for penne with ragù, while my wife had a grilled seafood dish; everything was fresh and tasty. The location is unbeatable, right by the sea, with a natural breeze that makes air conditioning or fans unnecessary. Dining by the sea in the evening, with a candle on the table, added a nice touch of elegance that I truly appreciated. The owner, an Italian, clearly knows his craft. This place is a hidden gem, away from the hustle of Hiriketiya, where you can unwind and savor excellent food in a lovely setting.

    Great stay with attentive hosts

    On our journey back to Colombo, we spent one night here and had a fantastic experience. The staff was attentive, kind, and truly dedicated. Andrea and Daria were wonderful hosts. Dinner was superb, and the location is unbeatable. We definitely plan to return.
