    Great all-in-one supermarket

This is one of the top supermarkets in Negombo. You can find everything from household goods, books, and accessories to children's toys, sports gear, vegetables, fruits, meats, and bakery items all in one place. Their collection of furniture and electrical items is particularly impressive. During Christmas, they offer a wonderful selection of decorations and other festive items.

    Mixed Experience at Arpico Supermarket

We've been coming to this Arpico since my older son was little (back in 2009), so we have fond memories attached to it. Things have changed a lot since then. The clothing section that used to be there is now gone. However, when compared to other supermarkets, Arpico offers a tremendous variety. You can find many products all in one place: groceries, stationery, toys, household items, and electronics are on the ground floor, while furniture is on the first floor. Additionally, there’s a café, a liquor store, a pharmacy, a cosmetics shop, a snacks stand, and even a balloon corner. An ice cream stall greets you right by the entrance. The pictures and videos we captured give a great overview of the store. Since Negombo attracts many tourists, there’s a good selection of imported goods for their convenience. Most credit cards are accepted, including American Express. The shelves are well-stocked and the store has nice air-conditioning. Their bakery is quite good too. The bread is large and of excellent quality for just LKR 130. The sausage pastries are tasty as well. There are multiple discounts on various items, and we appreciate that Arpico is straightforward with their terms, avoiding the sneaky practices we've seen elsewhere, like Cargills. We were impressed by their interactive e-tabloid, which feels like flipping through real pages. There are over 10 cashier counters, which helps avoid long lines. However, there are also some drawbacks. The 8-piece fried chicken bucket from their café costs LKR 1,890, and while it was in a warming showcase, it wasn't hot enough. Fortunately, the staff kindly reheated it for us and included a mayonnaise dip. Still, we felt the chicken bucket was not worth the price; as shown in the photo, some pieces were undercooked and overly coated. We also noticed that instead of the promised variety, we only got wings—no thighs or breasts. Another issue was the condition of the toilets; they were quite poor and need better maintenance. There’s some confusion about the opening hours. It states 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the entrance, but Google Maps lists it as 08:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. We couldn't find Keeri Samba Rice sacks, but we eventually found some at the Seeduwa branch. The snacks stand, named "Nuts and Murrukku," looks high quality but is on the expensive side. Electronics also seemed overpriced; for instance, we found a kitchen scale for around LKR 1,000 on Daraz, but at Arpico, it was LKR 3,000. The fish and meat appeared old; the selection is good, but the freshness is questionable. Some fridges holding perishables like frozen short eats were left open, which could affect food quality. The loyalty program isn’t very impressive compared to Keells, as the discounts are relatively low, earning only 1 point for every LKR 200 spent. Lastly, like previous reviewers pointed out, the Commercial Bank ATM has been moved, which is inconvenient for customers who want to access banking services while shopping.

    Disappointing Experience with Ice Cream

I bought a tub of ice cream, but it was completely melted. They recommend a storage temperature of -18, yet they keep it in an open freezer. The Arpico brand ice cream cones weren't crispy and had too much yellow coloring. The staff was unfriendly and seemed to be hanging out, talking in an unprofessional manner. They lacked nice uniforms and should really work on their professionalism. It would be beneficial to train the staff on how to interact properly with customers.

Great grocery selection at fair prices

This is a solid spot for all your grocery needs, offering a good variety at reasonable prices. However, if you're used to products from other countries, you might find some items missing. Additionally, the customer service could use some improvement.

    Unsafe product experience

Two days ago, I bought Lion Muesli at the Arpico Negombo Store during their Buy 1, Get 1 Free promotion. This morning, while having breakfast, I discovered two tiny shards of glass in the packet. The product, made by Lion Dates Impex in Chennai, India, is imported to Sri Lanka by Harrington Trading Lanka in Wattala. I think I might have accidentally swallowed a small piece before realizing it, and I'm just hoping it passes through my system without causing any problems. The manufacturing date is August 6, 2026, Batch # LM24. I plan to contact Arpico as soon as the store opens today to alert them to remove this product from their shelves immediately.
