Frustrating dining experience at hotel
Avoid ruining your time in Sri Lanka by staying at this hotel! The restaurant experience highlighted the low standards of the hotel staff. My partner and I waited 45 minutes for our two main courses to arrive after our starter and drinks, and we even joined another guest in voicing our concerns to the restaurant manager about the delay. We ended up witnessing an argument among the staff, and when our food finally arrived, one of the mains (pasta) was served cold in a single bowl. Not wanting my partner to wait while hungry, we shared the bowl without even receiving a plate. When I asked the waiter to expedite our other main (grilled prawns), he claimed we hadn’t ordered it! We complained to the manager again, who suggested we take food from the buffet but limited us to one plate. It was late, we had a flight the next morning, and we didn’t know the area well enough to go elsewhere, so we had to comply with the manager’s one plate rule. We even had to skip dessert because of this rule, or face being told an hour later that we hadn’t ordered it! Later, the waiter and manager had the audacity to ask us, "all good right?" The manager seems to think guests should feel grateful for a bite from his buffet, but we didn’t expect such pettiness when we chose this hotel for a relaxing lagoon-side dinner featuring Negombo's famous prawns. We booked a double room 20 days in advance but ended up in a twin room facing the road on the first floor, which was swarming with mosquitoes. We booked through booking.com, but it’s not providing a review link, likely due to a partner site issue. No surprise there! The resident manager did apologize later, but we have never encountered such pettiness in Sri Lanka or anywhere else. Don't let this hotel ruin your Sri Lanka experience when there are plenty of other options near the airport.
