Mixed feelings about this hotel stay
The hotel makes a stunning first impression, often referred to as "The Palace in the Sky," which really sets the mood as you or your Tuktuk/Taxi driver navigate the steep hill to reach it. The check-in process was enjoyable, though it took a bit longer since we requested a twin room. Upon arriving at our room, we found we had been given a standard room instead, which took an additional 15 minutes to rectify—disappointing after a long journey. Once that was sorted, we discovered the A/C wasn’t functioning. An engineer came to reset it, claiming it should work within 10 minutes, but an hour later, we were still without cool air, necessitating another engineer’s visit. While I understand that issues can arise, I expected a proper twin room and a quicker fix for the A/C. The hotel is in a remote location with lovely views of Kandy, but it’s quite isolated, and while taxis are available, many cancel when they see how far they need to travel from town. After spending two nights, I felt that my experience reflected the saying, "all that glitters isn’t gold." The hotel's exterior is impressive, but beyond that, it feels rather average, with dated rooms and bathrooms. The staff members are friendly but not particularly attentive. Breakfast was mediocre; the tea and coffee were lukewarm both mornings, and while there was a decent variety of food, it mostly felt repetitive. Would I return? I’m not so sure; I might seek out a nicer option that's closer to town.
