A Homely Stay in Batticaloa
Seethevi Hotel is often referred to as a home away from home, and this description truly holds up—it's more than just a hotel. The complex features a delightful aviary with lively lovebirds, local Eastern Province trees, and a multi-faith shrine where guests can find a quiet moment for peace or worship to start their day. Conveniently located, Seethevi Hotel is close to a supermarket, a bakery, a bank, restaurants, and even a private hospital. Plus, the lovely Kallady Beach is just around the corner. The interior includes five bedrooms that come with modern amenities. The living area is welcoming, boasting a large eight-seater dining table, cozy sofas in the lounge, a small selection of books, and complimentary Wi-Fi. I would describe this place as a homestay with hotel-like facilities. However, the standout feature is definitely the staff. They embody the essence of Batticaloa—often considered the hospitality capital of Sri Lanka—offering heartfelt generosity and a multilingual service that truly warms your heart. A unique aspect of our stay was the rather unusual wake-up call. At 5:00 AM, the daily devotions, singing, and religious talks from a nearby Hindu temple serve as your wake-up alarm. If you manage to sleep through that, the neighborhood roosters will ensure you're up by 6:00 AM. This experience really transports you back in time. I learned that the hotel is a labor of love from a local visionary committed to preserving the spirit of Batticaloa. Even though it has only been operating for a year and a half, Seethevi Hotel has already welcomed locals, Sri Lankan expatriates, and international tourists. If you're seeking an authentic homestay experience with all the modern conveniences, don't miss out on Seethevi Hotel.
